Four steps before funded work begins
- 1
Confirm your address and income limits
Check city boundaries, any neighborhood map, household size, and whether the home must be homesteaded. A mailing address alone may not establish city eligibility.
- 2
Gather the requested documents
Have photo identification, proof of ownership, household income records, insurance, mortgage statements and property-tax records ready. Follow the agency's checklist for the exact documents.
- 3
Ask about contractor selection
Some programs use their own approved contractors or procurement process. Miramar requests three quotes; Hollywood uses its approved list. Confirm those rules before arranging the work.
- 4
Get approval and understand payment
Review the approved scope, your share of costs, any lien, and repayment conditions. For My Safe Florida Home, obtain the required program inspection and written grant approval before construction.

A roofing estimate is a useful starting point
M&M Roofing can review your roof and explain the work an estimate includes. If you have a program inspection report or an approved scope, share it when discussing your project.
The agency handles the assistance application and decides the award. Contractor approval is separate, so a roofing estimate does not confirm that M&M can perform a particular program's work.

Questions homeowners ask
Can a program pay for my entire roof replacement?
An approved replacement may be fully covered when its eligible cost fits the award and the program's rules. A maximum award is not a guaranteed payment: other required repairs, project costs and available funds can affect what is approved.
Will I have to pay the money back?
Read the award agreement before accepting assistance. A grant may have conditions; a forgivable loan can require repayment if you sell, rent out or leave the home too soon. A deferred loan postpones payment and does not automatically mean the debt is forgiven.
Can I apply to a neighboring city's program?
The city programs listed here require the home to be within that city, and Hollywood Neighborhood Pride also uses a neighborhood eligibility map. My Safe Florida Home is a statewide option available to qualifying homeowners throughout Broward.
Can I choose M&M Roofing to do the work?
That depends on the program's contractor rules. Hollywood uses its approved contractor list, while Miramar asks homeowners for three licensed-contractor quotes. Confirm how the agency selects and approves a roofer before assigning the work.
Can I start the roof while I wait for an answer?
My Safe Florida Home requires grant approval before construction. For any assistance program, confirm the approval, permitting and payment sequence with the administrator before starting work you expect the program to fund.
What if my city is not listed?
Check My Safe Florida Home first, then contact your city's housing department or Broward Housing at 954-357-4900 about current intake. This guide includes programs we could verify as accepting applications on October 20, 2026; it is not a list of every program that may reopen later.
