Beneath the metal

Polystick XFR before the panels cover it

This installation view shows the pink Polystick XFR layer across the roof, with its product markings still visible. Once the metal is installed, homeowners no longer see this part of the roof. The progress photos preserve a view of the materials underneath the finished surface.

Polyglass describes XFR as a self-adhered, fire-resistant waterproofing underlayment designed for high-temperature applications beneath metal roofing. It adds a water-protection layer beneath the roof covering. Read the manufacturer's product sheet (PDF, opens in a new tab).

Our Polystick XFR review explains the product in more detail. When comparing roof proposals, look for the named underlayment alongside the metal panel system.
