Titan XT is a laminated (dimensional) asphalt shingle from TAMKO Building Products, which is based in Joplin, Missouri. Is Titan XT approved for Broward County?

Yes, for roofs within its NOA limits. Miami-Dade NOA 26-0331.03 (opens in a new tab) approves TAMKO's Proline Titan XT for the Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zones, which cover Broward and Miami-Dade. The approval is dated July 23, 2026, replaces NOA 25-1114.01 and expires December 1, 2030. It lists five TAMKO plants: Dallas, Tuscaloosa, Frederick, Phillipsburg and Joplin.

Three NOA conditions matter on a Broward house. The shingles may not go on roofs with a mean height above 33 feet. Installation and flashing follow Roofing Application Standard RAS 115 with the NOA's nailing details. Fire classification is outside the NOA, so the Class A fire listing comes from UL. The NOA also says it cannot be used on its own to obtain a building permit; the permit package adds the uniform roofing application and the other required pages.

Outside the HVHZ, TAMKO lists statewide approvals FL 18355 and FL 35321, which you can open on the Florida Building Code Online search (opens in a new tab). Our guide to checking a roofing product's NOA and FL approval shows what to look for on each page.

What does the 160 mph wind warranty require?

TAMKO's sell sheet says the WindGuard 160 mph extended wind warranty requires TAMKO starter and TAMKO hip and ridge shingles, installed under TAMKO's High Wind Application Instructions. A roof finished with another brand's starter strip or ridge cap does not meet that condition.

Workmanship is a separate warranty. TAMKO's product page says contractor workmanship is covered only by its MasterShield (10 years) or DiamondShield (25 years) enhanced system warranties, which TAMKO Pro Certified Contractors offer. Ask any roofer which TAMKO warranty, if any, comes with the quote and what their own workmanship warranty covers.

What does a Titan XT roof by M&M look like?

On a home in the NW 37th Terrace area of Fort Lauderdale, M&M rebuilt damaged decking and perimeter wood, installed Polystick IR-Xe on the sloped sections and finished them in Titan XT Shadow Grey. The low-slope section received a hot-mopped GAFGLAS built-up system with a #75 base sheet and Ply 4. The full story, with every stage photographed, is in the Fort Lauderdale shingle and flat roof replacement case study.

Which Titan XT colors can you get in Florida?

TAMKO prints a separate sell sheet for each plant. The February 2026 sheet for the Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant lists 14 colors:

  • Black Walnut
  • Desert Sand
  • Glacier White
  • Natural Timber
  • Olde English Pewter
  • Oxford Grey
  • Rustic Black
  • Rustic Cedar
  • Rustic Hickory
  • Rustic Slate
  • Shadow Grey
  • Thunderstorm Grey
  • Virginia Slate
  • Weathered Wood

Desert Sand, Glacier White and Olde English Pewter are listed by the Cool Roof Rating Council. TAMKO says colors and products may not be available in every area and recommends seeing an installed roof before choosing. To compare shingle colors from other manufacturers side by side, use our shingle color samples.

What should you know before choosing Titan XT?

  • Impact class. UL classifies Titan XT to UL 2218 Class 3. TAMKO notes the steel-ball test may not match real hail or storm debris.
  • Height limit. The NOA caps mean roof height at 33 feet.
  • Accessories decide the wind warranty. The 160 mph warranty depends on TAMKO starter, hip and ridge and the high-wind instructions.
  • The deck and underlayment come first. A shingle cannot make up for rotted decking or a weak underlayment. Compare underlayments in our Polystick underlayment comparison.
  • Insurance credit is the insurer's call. A documented, fully adhered ASTM D1970 underlayment can support the secondary water resistance entry on the OIR-B1-1802 form (opens in a new tab); the insurer decides the credit.

For budget planning, read the Broward shingle roof replacement cost guide. Another shingle M&M has installed is GAF Timberline, shown in the Deerfield Beach shingle roof case study.

Frequently asked questions

Is TAMKO Titan XT a good shingle for South Florida?

It is a shingle M&M has installed in Fort Lauderdale, and its paperwork covers the points a Broward reroof is checked on: a current Miami-Dade NOA for the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, ASTM D3161 Class F and D7158 Class H wind classifications and a UL Class A fire listing. Your roof's height, underlayment and permit details still decide whether it fits.

Is Titan XT approved in Broward and Miami-Dade County?

Miami-Dade NOA 26-0331.03 approves Proline Titan XT as designed to comply with the Florida Building Code High-Velocity Hurricane Zones, which cover Broward and Miami-Dade. It was approved July 23, 2026, expires December 1, 2030 and limits the shingles to roofs with a mean height of 33 feet or less.

What does the Titan XT 160 mph wind warranty require?

TAMKO says the WindGuard 160 mph extended wind warranty requires TAMKO starter shingles, TAMKO hip and ridge shingles and installation under TAMKO's High Wind Application Instructions. Ask your roofer to list the starter and ridge products on the written estimate.

Is Titan XT impact resistant?

UL classifies Titan XT to UL 2218 Class 3. TAMKO notes that the UL 2218 test drops a steel ball and may not match real hail or storm debris on a roof. Insurers set their own rules for impact-resistance credits, so ask yours before counting on one.

What colors does Titan XT come in for Florida?

TAMKO's February 2026 sell sheet for its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant lists 14 colors, including Shadow Grey, the color on M&M's Fort Lauderdale job. Desert Sand, Glacier White and Olde English Pewter are listed by the Cool Roof Rating Council. TAMKO notes that colors vary by area, so confirm stock with a current sample.

Which underlayment goes under Titan XT on an M&M roof?

On the Fort Lauderdale reroof, M&M installed Polystick IR-Xe, a self-adhered shingle underlayment, on the sloped sections before the Titan XT shingles. A fully adhered ASTM D1970 underlayment can support the secondary water resistance entry on Florida's wind-mitigation form when a qualified inspector documents it.

Does the Titan XT warranty cover installation mistakes?

TAMKO's product page says contractor workmanship is covered only under its enhanced MasterShield (10 years) or DiamondShield (25 years) system warranties, available through TAMKO Pro Certified Contractors. The Standard Limited Warranty covers the product. Ask which warranty applies to your quote.

How much does a Titan XT roof cost in Broward County?

The shingle is one line of the job. Roof area, tear-off, deck repairs, underlayment, flashing and permit work drive the total. See M&M's Broward shingle roof replacement cost guide for planning ranges, then request a written estimate for your roof.
