A Strong Flat-Tile Option When It Fits the Home

Saxony 900 Slate is a strong option for homeowners who want clean, straight roof lines instead of a high-barrel Mediterranean profile. Its flat shape can work on contemporary, ranch, coastal, European-inspired, and other homes when the roof proportions and exterior palette support that look.

Whether someone should choose Saxony 900 ultimately depends on the homeowner's taste and the style of the home. The selected physical color sample, roof geometry, deck, underlayment, and permitted attachment system matter just as much as the profile name.

How Saxony 900 Slate Works With APOC Polyset AH-160

Westlake designed the flat backside and thicker mid-body to increase adhesive contact. Its current literature claims up to 25% less foam, while Westlake's FAQ says the enhanced-contact testing was completed with Polyset AH-160. We treat that as a manufacturer claim tied to the approved AH-160 configurations, not a promise for every adhesive or jobsite condition.

StormBond 2One 24 g paddy62 ft-lbf
AH-160One 45 g paddy119 ft-lbf
StormBond 2One 45 g paddy93 ft-lbf

What the selected rows show

Two #8 screws are listed at 51.7 ft-lbf in the direct-deck rows. The selected single-patty AH-160 rows reach 83 ft-lbf at 24 g and 119 ft-lbf at 45 g. The same table also shows why adhesive brand, weight, and configuration cannot be swapped casually.

What the values do not mean

Mf is an attachment-resistance moment in foot-pounds—not pull-off pounds, psf, wind speed, or a hurricane category. A project-specific RAS 127 calculation still selects the required field, perimeter, and corner attachment.

The full Lake Wales NOA also lists two-patty AH-160, mortar, batten, and hybrid configurations. Adhesive- and mortar-set work requires applicable component approvals and TAS 106 field-uplift testing. The cited tile acceptance is limited to wood-deck applications and must be installed under the applicable RAS 118, 119, and 120 requirements.

Barcelona 900

Current review

High-profile, one-piece S tile

The deepest barrel shape in this comparison, with a pronounced Spanish or Mediterranean appearance.

Villa 900

Review planned

Low-profile, double-roll tile

Keeps a flowing S-tile appearance with less height and a more restrained roof texture.

Saxony 900

Current review

Flat slate- and shake-look family

Creates straighter horizontal courses; exact variants depend on the manufacturing plant and current approval.

Low-profile S tile

A lower-wave alternative for homeowners who want curved concrete tile without Barcelona's high barrel.

Benefits and Tradeoffs

Where Saxony 900 Slate stands out

  • Flat, straight courses provide a slate-inspired alternative to high- and low-barrel concrete tile.
  • Westlake's current Florida selector offers 26 plant-specific choices across neutrals, warm blends, dark tones, and white.
  • The current Lake Wales NOA includes direct-deck, batten, adhesive, mortar, and hybrid attachment paths for listed wood-deck assemblies.
  • The flat backside and thicker mid-body are designed to improve adhesive contact; Westlake says formal enhanced-contact testing used Polyset AH-160.
  • Westlake lists Class A fire performance and a transferable, non-prorated limited lifetime product warranty, subject to the complete system and current terms.

What to plan carefully

  • At roughly 950 pounds per roofing square, the deck and structural suitability need professional evaluation.
  • Lake Wales and Okeechobee colors, SKUs, pallets, and NOAs are plant-specific and should not be mixed on paperwork.
  • Westlake's up-to-25%-less-foam statement is a manufacturer claim tied to its cited AH-160 testing—not a universal field guarantee for every adhesive.
  • Online images are planning references. Approve a current physical sample and confirm stock, lead time, lot, and premium pricing before ordering.
  • No attachment-table value is a universal wind-speed rating, and concrete tile still requires careful handling and roof-traffic planning.

Saxony 900 Slate Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of roof tile is Saxony 900 Slate?

Saxony 900 Slate is a flat, interlocking concrete roof tile with a slate-inspired appearance. Westlake describes the profile as influenced by roofs found in England, Northern Europe, and the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, while its straight courses can work with many South Florida architectural styles.

What are the Saxony 900 Slate dimensions and weight?

The Lake Wales Miami-Dade NOA lists a 17 × 13-inch field tile, a 1-5/32-inch Slate profile height, two nail holes, and a 10.9 lbf average calculation weight. Westlake's Florida brochure lists approximately 85 field tiles and about 950 pounds installed per roofing square at a 3-inch minimum headlap.

How many Saxony 900 Slate colors are available in Florida?

Westlake's Florida selector showed 26 plant-specific choices when reviewed on August 30, 2026: 14 Lake Wales SKUs and 12 Okeechobee SKUs. Four were marked premium and four were introduced in 2026. Availability, stock status, lead time, lot, and premium pricing should be confirmed before ordering.

Does the same NOA cover every Florida color and plant?

No. The attached NOA 24-1008.12 is the Lake Wales Saxony 900 approval. Westlake's Florida selector also includes Okeechobee SKUs, which are associated with a separate plant-specific approval. Confirm the ordered SKU, plant, tile profile, and current approval together.

Can Saxony 900 Slate be installed with APOC Polyset AH-160?

Yes, in listed adhesive-set configurations. The Lake Wales NOA includes AH-160 HFC, HFO1, and HFO2 attachment rows. The exact formulation, paddy count, location, weight, contact area, roof zone, and component approval must match the project design; a generic foam paddy is not an interchangeable approval.

Is AH-160 foam stronger than screws on Saxony 900 Slate?

Not as a universal rule. The NOA lists 51.7 ft-lbf for two #8 screws in the direct-deck rows. Selected single-patty AH-160 rows range from 60 ft-lbf at 18 g to 119 ft-lbf at 45 g. These are assembly-specific attachment-resistance moments, not pull-off pounds or wind-speed ratings.

Does Saxony 900 really use up to 25% less foam?

Westlake's current Florida literature claims up to 25% less foam because the flat backside and thicker mid-body increase adhesive contact. Westlake's FAQ says the enhanced-contact testing was completed with Polyset AH-160, so the claim should not be transferred automatically to other adhesives or every field condition.

Is Saxony 900 Slate hurricane-proof?

No roof tile is hurricane-proof. The current Miami-Dade approvals provide listed attachment data, but a project-specific RAS 127 calculation must address design pressures, roof geometry, deck, underlayment, field, perimeter, corners, and the selected attachment system.

Is Saxony 900 Slate Class A fire rated?

Westlake describes Saxony 900 Slate as Class A Fire Rated. The Miami-Dade tile NOA separately states that fire classification is outside that approval's scope, so the complete permitted assembly and current fire-classification documents still need verification.

Should I choose Saxony 900 Slate or Barcelona 900?

That decision depends largely on the homeowner's taste and the style of the home. Saxony 900 Slate creates flatter, straighter courses and a slate-like look; Barcelona 900 creates a pronounced high-barrel Spanish or Mediterranean profile. Physical color samples and full-home profile views are more useful than choosing from a small screen swatch alone.

What warranty does Saxony 900 Slate have?

Westlake currently advertises an exclusive, non-prorated, fully transferable limited lifetime product warranty, subject to its registration, transfer, exclusion, and claim terms. Confirm the current warranty for the exact SKU and keep the final order and installation records.

Considering Saxony 900 Slate for Your South Florida Home?

M&M can compare current physical colors, plant-specific SKUs, profile options, underlayment, attachment methods, deck condition, and the complete permitted tile-roof scope.
